Officials at the Nye County District Attorney’s office have confirmed that professional basketball player Lamar Odom could face further charges stemming from a weekend spent at a brothel, according to local sources. Nevada authorities are continuing their investigation into Odom’s dealings, but they say drug crime charges could be forthcoming. Odom is currently still in the hospital recovering from unknown afflictions.
According to police, Odom is suspected of having been in possession of and using cocaine during his weekend-long stay at the Love Ranch brothel in Nevada. A warrant obtained on Oct. 13 allowed police to take a blood sample from the recovering athlete. This test will corroborate or deny the belief that he may have overdosed on cocaine during the fateful weekend.
At the moment, the district attorney’s office is still proceeding with its investigation. In a statement provided by the local sheriff’s office, police have said they are proceeding with a review of all the pertinent evidence in the case. This includes voice recordings from the original 911 call that led to Odom’s hospitalization in which the individual on the other end of the line said Odom had been using cocaine.
In order for drug crime charges to be filed, Nevada authorities will have to provide compelling evidence of Odom’s alleged actions at the brothel. This could be difficult to prove retroactively, however, particularly considering Odom’s condition at the moment. If the blood sample does not provide the evidence for which the authorities are looking, Odom may be left to recover from his ordeal in peace.
