A 26-year-old man stands charged with a violent crime in Las Vegas. Nevada authorities have charged the man with suspicion of murder in the case of the death of his 19-year-old girlfriend. He is expected to return to court on April 29 to face the charges.
According to the incident report, the man allegedly called police on March 29 to confess to the murder of his girlfriend. On the phone, police say the man gave both of their full names and the address where police later discovered the woman stabbed to death in a bathtub. While on the phone, the man was incoherent and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
When the man got off the phone, police say he crashed his vehicle into a local convenience store before becoming involved in an altercation with a bystander. When police arrived, the man was apparently naked and suffering from a severe injury to his left hand, so he was taken to a local hospital for treatment. There, he told police he and his girlfriend had consumed hallucinogenic mushrooms prior to the incident.
It may be possible for a Nevada attorney to negotiate a plea bargain in this case, particularly considering the seriousness of the murder charge. Considering the man may have been on drugs at the time the alleged crime was committed, the court may be inclined to reduce the charge if the accused agrees to drug rehabilitation. It should also be noted that a confession of a crime given while under the influence of drugs or alcohol may not be admissible in court.
